The Ozalj County Museum was established in 1971 and it inherits the Museum of the Society of “The Brothers of the Croatian Dragon” founded in 1930. During its existence, Ozalj County Museum has continuously developed into an institution that carries the cultural development of Ozalj and preserves the cultural and historical heritage of this area since its neolithic beginnings.
It includes a history of 6,000 years, which can be traced through written history and archeological artifacts. The history of the museum begins in the period of the younger stone age, the Neolithic, the Roman period and the mere seas of the people. Then it was the early Middle Ages and stories about great families where Frankopani and Zrinski and Ozalj’s cultural circle are particularly prominent. The collection of weapons from the time when the last Zrinski waged war with the Turks continued with the baroque period and the Society of “The Brothers of the Croatian Dragon”, who became owners of Ozalj’s Old Town in 1928 and organized a museum collection as a kind of “museum in the museum”. In the permanent exhibition, a special part is dedicated to Slavi Raškaj, a painter whose watercolors represent the highest range of Croatian watercolor painting at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
