The sacral heritage of the Ozalj region (St. Vid, St. Lovro, Monastery of Saint Svetica)
The Ozalj area is rich in sacral heritage of many churches and chapels. Particularly remarkable is the Ozalj Baroque parish church of Sv. Vida (protector Ozalj) mentioned already in 1349, and next to the grave of Slave Raškaj. Church of Sv. Lovre in Vivodina is still a valuable monument to Baroque architecture, which was built in the 18th century. gave rise to the baroness Rosine Vojnović Jelačić. Especially the impressive interior of the church, the baroque altar, the auxiliary altars with the statues of saints, the richly painted fresco frescoes and the restored church organ from the late 18th century.
The Pavlin monastery with the parish church of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s birth for centuries was a sanctuary of faith, but also the sanctuary of Croatian history, art and culture.
Once there, there were three chapels dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Holy Margaret and St. Catherine – the Three Saints, hence the name of the place. In this place in 1577 Stjepan Frankopan was buried, the last descendant of the Franklin dairy line.
The first part of the monastery was built in 1627, when they were fleeing the Turks from the Ottoman Emperor of Kamensky to Svetice. It was completed in 1660 with the great merit of the first and longstanding prize by Ivan Belostenac, a renowned lexicographer and writer, of the author of the three-year vocabulary of Gazophylacium. Of the exceptionally valuable inventory of the Gothic, later baroque-style church, the hand-carved choir bench is particularly emphasized. In addition to the main one, there are seven more altars, organ, church utensils and suits, and the statues and paintings by renowned Pauline painters of John Ranger and Gabriel Taller. The church’s interest is also the crypts (tombs) beneath the moat and shrine, in two and three floors with small semicircular openings.
